History of our Goulburn Valley Support Service
Caroline Chisholm Goulburn Valley began in March 1979, born from a rapidly growing need in Melbourne’s outer regions. Pat Coffey OA and Dr Philomene Joshua OAM joined forces to create a volunteer‑run service that offered practical, compassionate support to young mums who had nowhere else to turn. At the time, vulnerable pregnant women had access only to a maternal and child health centre, one welfare worker, and Centrelink. Pat and a dedicated team of volunteers stepped in to fill that gap, establishing a service that continues today, providing essential material aid and warm referrals to help families connect with the support they need.
Keep Shepparton Open
We are pleased to announce that we have managed to stay open for three days a week, providing essential material aid to the community. This achievement would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our long-standing volunteers in Shepparton, who played a crucial role in advocating for us within the community. We are deeply grateful to all of them and to our generous donors.
Wendy Hunt, for more than 43 years, has devoted her time to supporting vulnerable families with unwavering compassion and kindness. An extraordinary volunteer the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley community can be proud of. Wendy generously shares her knowledge with new volunteers and staff at the Caroline Chisholm Society – GV Pregnancy Support Service, strengthening the support offered to local families. She was recognised for her remarkable long standing volunteer service, by the Greater Shepparton City Council.
Our work here isn’t done. We are committed to continuing our efforts in Shepparton and providing more sustainable support for our families. Your continued support is vital to our mission, via donating to our campaign below, volunteering your time or donating material aid items to our service.
Our Shepparton office is open Monday – Wednesday 9 am – 12 pm and located at 15A St Andrews Road, Shepparton.
