For years, Stella lived in a relationship that slowly became defined by fear. What began as controlling comments and manipulation escalated into intimidation, threats, violence, and constant attempts to control her every move. When her son, Brody, was born, the abuse intensified.
Leaving the relationship was not the end of the ordeal. Stella continued to experience stalking, threats and ongoing intimidation, while navigating the challenges of parenting and family court proceedings. Brody was coming home with bruises. She was exhausted, overwhelmed, and carrying the weight of trying to keep her young son safe.
Everything changed when Stella reached out for help and was connected to specialist family violence support through The Orange Door.

With the support of her practitioner, Stella secured a protection order, improved safety measures around her home, and accessed practical supports that helped her regain a sense of security. When concerns arose about Brody’s wellbeing, Ayse stood beside Stella, advocating for her family and helping coordinate support across services, childcare and therapeutic programs.
More than practical assistance, Stella found something she had been missing for a long time: someone who listened, believed her, and walked alongside her through every challenge. Home visits from her social worker, were really lovely she recalled. Stella also completed a evidence based parenting program with us called Circle of Security and says it has helped her immensely with supporting Brody.
“I don’t know how I would have got through it without her. Having someone there who understood made all the difference.”

Today, Stella and Brody are rebuilding their lives. Brody is thriving in his swimming lessons, receiving support to help heal from trauma, and making positive progress every day. Stella says the safety measures in place and the ongoing support she receives have helped her feel secure and hopeful for the future.
Their story is a reminder that family violence can continue long after a relationship ends, but with the right support, recovery is possible. For Stella and Brody, that support helped transform fear into safety, and survival into hope.
